First they came for the RUSH fans and I did not speak out Because I didn’t like that band

You may tell yourself

“This could never happen here”

but, I tell you it happens daily. Not in some far flung future or under a distant demonic dictatorship, no, this happens here and now, right next door to you, maybe even in your own home. We all know someone, a close friend, a trusted relative, an admired coworker, or, a young adult who helps out the old folks in the neighborhood who, because of others venomous hatred, are forced to listen to the musical offerings of the Canadian rock band RUSH in secret.

“Why”?

you may ask yourself

and I tell you:

You well know how, snickering as you do when someone makes a snide comment about Geddy Lee’s voice, or harumphing loudly whenever Neil Peart is proclaimed an awesome drummer. So, don’t give me this bullshit “Why” for Christ’s sake, you know why.

“What can be done”?

you may then ask me

And I tell you this:

Invite others you know who listen to RUSH in secret to come out publicly with their enjoyment of the majestic music made by the holy trinity of Lee, Lifeson, and Peart. Sit and listen to ‘Permanent Waves’ over and over again in your front yard while you’re catching some rays . Crank up the volume of your car stereo as you listen to ‘2112’ while driving around town, or, inspire the next generation by finding, purchasing and wearing a RUSH t-shirt while attending a youth soccer tournament.  Whatever you choose to do, you must let everyone know that forcing others, through shame and ridicule, to listen to RUSH in secret will no longer be tolerated in this day and age.
